Impact of COVID-19 in Nursing Homes
The novel coronavirus, or COVID-19 pandemic, has struck the nation, even the whole world, in ways that were unimaginable. Particularly concerning is the impact to our loved ones in assisted living facilities, nursing homes and long-term care facilities where some of the most vulnerable population resides. Sadly, the most severe COVID-19 cases and a disproportionate number of serious illness cases and deaths have occurred among nursing home residents with some estimates putting that figure at over 40%.
Unfortunately, in many cases, it appears as if proper infection control procedures by nursing home health care workers may not have been practiced which contributed to the public health problems.
