Impact of COVID-19 in Nursing Homes

The novel coronavirus, or COVID-19 pandemic, has struck the nation, even the whole world, in ways that were unimaginable.  Particularly concerning is the impact to our loved ones in assisted living facilities, nursing homes and long-term care facilities where some of the most vulnerable population resides.  Sadly, the most severe COVID-19 cases and a disproportionate number of serious illness cases and deaths have occurred among nursing home residents with some estimates putting that figure at over 40%.

Unfortunately, in many cases, it appears as if proper infection control procedures by nursing home health care workers may not have been practiced which contributed to the public health problems.  This includes nursing homes or facilities not following CDC or local department of health guidelines regarding the use of employee screening for symptoms, or the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

One of my loved ones got sick from COVID-19 in a nursing home – what should I do?

If a loved one has been injured or passed away in a nursing home, assisted living facility, or long-term care facility, it is important that you seek proper legal advice.  It is possible that COVID-19 deaths may have resulted from a failure of nursing facilities, care homes and health care facilities to test personnel, require personnel to wear PPE, or adhere to CDC, CMS, or health department guidelines or requirements.  If you believe that negligence or misconduct contributed to coronavirus cases in a nursing home or care facility, contact us to provide a free consultation and evaluation of your case.
